Getting There
Chichime is a major anchor point and easy to reach. As we drop anchor, you’ll see smoke rising from traditional hearths and local Ulus (canoes) moving about, signaling a thriving community.
Well-protected bay, cultural hub, and central location.
What to Expect
A vibrant atmosphere. This is home to many indigenous families, so you will see daily Guna life in action. The island is crisscrossed with trails leading to secret beaches and local bars.
The surrounding water is teeming with reefs, making it a top-tier snorkel spot for those who love underwater exploration.
🧐 Curious Fact
The "Stranded Ferry" is a local landmark. It ran aground years ago and has now become part of the reef ecosystem, hosting thousands of fish and creating a unique snorkel site.
⚓ Captain’s Tip
"Ask the locals to show you the path to the 'secret beach' on the other side of the island. Also, snorkeling around the ferry is spooky but safe and beautiful."
What to Bring
Essential for exploring the ferry and reefs.
Recommended if walking the interior island trails.
Capture the unique shipwreck underwater.
Support the local families at the island bars.
The Nega
Walking through Chichime, you will see the Nega (Guna house). They are built with cane walls and thatched roofs.
Note that there are usually two structures: one for sleeping (hammocks) and a separate one for the fire/kitchen. This design is intentional to prevent fires from destroying the sleeping quarters.
