Five nights is where the route becomes an odyssey. You can experience part of Cayos Limones, explore the contrasting sides of Cayos Holandeses and continue to the tiny cays of Coco Bandero before finishing through the coastal islands.
It covers more ground than the four-night route without turning the trip into a race. There is still room for the captain to respond to weather, visibility and what your group enjoys most.
The character of the journey
Cayos Limones
A first taste of San Blas: palm-lined islands, protected water and a choice of classic anchorages. We select only the stops that fit the day's route instead of trying to visit the whole area.
Cayos Holandeses
Time to experience both the more social southern side and the wilder northern reefs. Snorkelling sites and anchorages are chosen according to current conditions.
Coco Bandero
Three tiny islands form a natural triangle around a protected anchorage. Their scale makes the experience feel wonderfully remote: shallow water, coral close to the cays and almost nothing between you and the horizon. Nurse sharks are sometimes seen in this area; wildlife encounters are never guaranteed and any time in the water follows the captain's safety guidance.
Cayos de las Montañas
The final zone is the name we use for the coastal cays facing Guna Yala's forested mountains, including possibilities such as Isla Verde, Cambombia, Waisaladup and Coco Blanco.
How the itinerary works
The journey may run east to west or west to east. Specific islands, wildlife encounters and the sequence of stops vary with wind, swell, permissions, visibility and the starting position of the boat.
Best for
Travellers who want variety — reef, open-water sailing, small cays and different island atmospheres — with enough time to enjoy each region rather than simply pass through it.
